Automatic sammying, setting-out machine

15 December 2003

Rizzi 1857 have created a sammying and setting-out machine that operates automatically. The RDPA machine is fitted with photocells above the main front roller and operates parallel along the backbone of the hide down to the belly. The photocell measures the leather and the operator does not need to touch the leather while the sammying/setting-out operation takes place. The RDPA has been trialled inside a tannery for the past year. Once the mechanical operation is finished, the hide is automatically transported to be stacked on to a pallet or horsed-up by a conveyor. The RDPA has been designed by Rizzi to process tanned or post-tanned hides. To increase the area yield, they have fitted a new roller with an improved spreading action.
