ZSCHIMMER & SCHWARZ have unveiled a number of new products, so new that many have not yet been named. Product LM 2525 is a fatliquoring agent for shoe upper and bag leather as well as suede splits. It is a combination of softeners and neutral oils in a brown, clear to turbid liquid. It has an active matter of around 60%, is anionic and has a pH of around 7. It is stable to anionic dyestuffs and is compatible with vegetable and synthetic tanning agents as well as bases and acids in usual concentrations. It has limited stability to neutral salts and is not stable to chrome and aluminium salts. It has a low emulsifying capacity and can be stored for up to twelve months when properly stored. There is increased viscosity at very low temperatures. However, after a rise in temperature to 20°C, the product becomes liquid again and can be used without any problems after a thorough stirring. Product LM 2525 supports the following leather properties: good, even softness; pleasant, slightly waxy touch; very good grain firmness; excellent buffability and velvety touch for suede/nubuck types. Product LM 2525 is preferably used alone but is also possible to combine with other anionic or non-ionic fatliquoring agents. Product LM 3679 is a fatliquoring agent based on long-chain ester sulfonates, lanolin and special synthetic oils. It is a whitish liquid with around 45% active matter, anionic with a pH (10%) of around 7. It is stable to all electrolytes in usual concentrations, readily soluble in water and has storage stability of up to twelve months when stored properly. Product LM 3679 imparts optimised fogging values to the leather. It has a very good stability to light and electrolytes and is used mainly in the pickle and chrome tannage. The resultant leathers are well fatliquored through the whole cross-section. They are very soft, have a pleasant touch and an elastic grain. The tear strength is greatly improved and foam problems are minimised. Due to the good lubrication effect in the drum, leathers do not tend to tangle or rub. Mechanical processes such as sammying and shaving are facilitated. Product LM 6028/41 is a fatliquoring agent for automotive upholstery leather. It is a combination of polymeric, synthetic and natural softeners. It is a light-brown liquid with approximately 65% active matter, anionic and with a pH (10%) of around 8. It is stable to anionic dyestuffs, vegetable and synthetic tanning agents and compatible with acids and bases in usual concentrations. It is not stable to chrome and aluminium salts. Product LM 6028/41 is readily soluble in water and a direct addition to the float is possible. It has an emulsifying capacity of up to 100% of its own weight for water-insoluble oils and can be stored for up to twelve months under proper conditions. Long storage times can lead to product separation, so it is advisable to stir well before use. Leathers treated with Product LM 6028/41 show a very good fogging behaviour in the gravimetric as well as in the reflectometric field. Dyeing is no problem and leaves no dark edges. Leathers have a soft, pleasant, full feel and the adhesion of the finish, which is important in automotive leathers, is not negatively influenced. Product LM 7159 is a filling, fatliquoring polymer for automotive leathers and soft leather types. It is a combination of anionic polymer and softeners providing around 40% active matter in an anionic, yellow clear liquid. It has a pH of about 8 with a low stability to chrome salts and pickle acids. It is not stable to aluminium salts but stable to vegetable and synthetic tanning agents as well as anionic dyestuffs. It is readily soluble in water in any ratio, can be stored under proper conditions for up to twelve months and should be stirred well before use. Used in the production of soft leathers with particularly high fastnesses, the following characteristics are emphasised: very good lightfastness, low extractability, excellent heat resistance, cleaning fastness, good fogging behaviour, fine, firm grain, pleasant touch, even dyeings. Product LZ 2058 is a highly effective hydrophobing agent for all leather types. It is a perflourinated ester with an active matter of around 20%. It is an anionic transparent emulsion with low viscosity and a pH (10%) of around 9. It is stable to anionic leather auxiliaries (dyestuffs, tanning agents and fatliquors) in usual concentrations but not stable to polyvalent metal salts. It is mixable with water in any ratio and can be stored for at least six months when properly stored (+2°C to +30°C). It should be stored away from direct heat and stirred well before use. Product LZ 2058 is used to render all types of leather hydrophobic, applied in particular where very high demands are made on the hydrophobing effect. It is usually applied as a top at the end of the formulation after the acidification, when the leather has already been treated with hydrophobing fatliquors. Due to the anionic charge, it is also possible to add the product during the fatliquoring. In order to achieve the full hydrophobing effect, a fixation with polyvalent metal salts after the application of the product is necessary. It can also be used as an aqueous spray coat. Product LZ 7029 is a polymer tanning agent for the retannage of all types of leather. It is a liquid copolymer which is colourless to amber with an active matter of 25%. It is anionic with a pH (10%) of about 10. It is stable to syntans, vegetable tanning agents and other anionic auxiliaries in usual concentrations. It is not stable to chromium and aluminium salts and has limited stability to neutral salts. It is miscible with water in any ratio and can be stored for twelve months under proper conditions. In a combined retannage with syntans or vegetable tanning agents, the typical character of the chrome leather is maintained. The use of Product LZ 7029 improves the fullness, the firmness and the feel of the leather. The grain pattern and particularly the grain tightness are improved considerably too. The product is outstandingly lightfast and in contrast to other comparable products the colours are more brilliant. Dolagen AP is a hydrophobing fatliquor for soft leather, composed of polymeric substances in a light brown liquid. The product has an active matter of about 40%, it is amphoteric by nature and has a pH (10%) of about 8.5. It is stable to all anionic leather auxiliaries but not stable to polyvalent metal salts and acids. It is soluble with water in any ratio. It has no emulsifying capacity and can be stored for up to six months under the correct conditions. It should be protected from direct heat and stirred well before use. Leathers treated with Dolagen AP have very good softness, pleasant, silky feel, good colour levelness, good hydrophobing behaviour, very good fastness to light and heat and very good fogging behaviour.
