Centenary of Leather celebrations

14 July 2008

2009 marks the Centenary of The British School of Leather Technology and the Alumni team at The University of Northampton is busy working with colleagues to create a development plan that will set the scene for the next century of leather education in the UK.

The project will involve capital investment to upgrade and renew equipment and machinery in the tannery, laboratories and teaching rooms. It is likely the Centenary will be launched at the APLF in Hong Kong with a salon show featuring leather fashion designs created by their students, with the possibility of taking the salon show to other international venues. This will sit alongside a visual history of leather education, so alumni and friends are being asked to send information, photographs and reminiscences of student life. The highlight of the Centenary year will be a celebratory awards dinner and fashion show on July 18, 2009, at The University of Northampton, to honour those who have made a significant contribution to the leather industry over the past 100 years.
