Electrolyte stable oil from Smit & Zoon

15 November 2003

Smit & Zoon, the Netherlands wet-end leather chemical manufacturer, have launched Synthol PD 990. It is a highly electrolyte stable synthetic fatliquor with esters. Due to its stable character to chrome salts and acids, this product can be offered in the pickle. Smit & Zoon recommend an offer of 2.5-3% to provide the leather with a full and round handle, improved softness, a cleaner wet-blue and excellent wetting back properties. As well as all types of full grain leathers, Synthol PD 990 may also be used on doubleface and split materials. For doubleface, Smit & Zoon recommend to use in the rechroming step at 1-2% with the final offer dependant on the type of article being made. Approximately 4-6% is suggested for use on splits to give a fine buffed napp and good lustre. Synthol PD 990 is a white liquid which can be supplied in drums, containers or in bulk and is suitable for automatic dosing systems. The synthetic mixture of oils and esters provides leather with good lightfastness, contains no solvents and has a pH of 6-7 in a 10% solution. This product should be stored in a dry place above freezing.
