Environment award for Bayer Wuxi

22 January 2004

Bayer Wuxi Leather Chemical Company (BWLCC) has recently become the first company in the People's Republic of China to be named a 'State Environmentally Friendly Enterprise' by the country's State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA). A team of six SEPA specialists spent three days inspecting the Bayer Wuxi site. They investigated the production process and poured over records documenting the company's comprehensive measures to protect the environment. At the end of the inspection, they were thoroughly convinced of BWLCC's outstanding environmental credentials. Numerous employees were involved in helping make the inspection a success. They were part of a team headed by Dr Dongqi Hu (Bayer Wuxi General Manager), Xiao Zhang (HSE and QC Manager) and Zhijie Ge (Production Manager). Dr Elmar Stachels, ceo of Bayer Greater China and senior Bayer representative for Greater China, congratulated Dr Detlef Melzer, General Manager of Bayer Chemicals Greater China, Dr Dongqi Hu and his team, and the entire Bayer Wuxi crew on their success, noting that it was based on a proven and long-term record of outstanding achievements in environmental protection. The SEPA 'State Environmentally Friendly Enterprise' award was launched in 2003 by Chinese officials in recognition of companies with exemplary environmental records.
