Good year-end for Tandy Leather

Tandy Leather Factory’s sales at stores open at least a year rose by 19% in December, the company said on January 5. This figure is a key gauge of a retailer's health because it excludes results from stores recently opened or closed.


Monthly sales at the Fort Worth, Texas-based leather retailer rose 16% to $7.2 million, a new monthly sales record, the company said.

Tandy Leather Factory sells products including buckles, saddle hardware and leatherworking tools at Leather Factory and Tandy Leather stores.

Retail Leathercraft sales increased 19% to $4.4 million, while wholesale Leathercraft revenue rose 12.5% to $2.7 million. International Leathercraft, which includes one store in the UK and one store in Australia, reported a 25% increase in sales for December.

For 2011, sales for all stores rose 11% to $66.4 million. Retail Leathercraft sales gained 16% at $37.5 million, while wholesale Leathercraft revenue edged up 3% to $26.7 million and international Leathercraft sales rose 24% to $2.1 million.

Sales at stores open at least a year rose 15% in 2011.

Tandy Leather operates 29 Leather Factory stores in 19 US states and three Canadian provinces. It has 77 Tandy Leather stores in 36 states and six Canadian provinces and two wholesale/retail stores in the UK and Australia.
