Huntsman at Simac

New and innovative technologies will be showcased on the Huntsman Polyurethanes stand at Simac 2003. A new family of polyether systems that provide improved sole definition, replacing traditional technologies in the unit sole and direct moulded markets, will be on show. The company will also be presenting the latest developments in Avalon thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), including the next generation Avalon Crystal, a range of transparent TPUs and the highly resilient Avalon Reflex portfolio. The new range of polyether systems is waterblown and produces a longer lasting sole due to inherent abrasion and hydrolysis resistant properties. Formulations are designed to reduce air bubbles, improving definition and aesthetics in combination with a high quality matt finish. The technology can be supplied in a variety of hardnesses and densities ranging from high to low, suitable for a host of applications, including sockliners, dual density outsoles, unit soles and direct moulded footwear. The polyether systems offer easier handling due to improved storage stability of the liquid components. The balanced viscosity of the two components also leads to more robust machine processing for customers. The Huntsman Polyurethanes Footwear division will also be introducing the next generation Avalon Crystal, a specially developed range of transparent TPU for fashion and sport, which offers strength, flexibility and abrasion resistance. The technology is available in a range of hardnesses, catering for soft application in causal shoes, accessories, trims and logos to harder sole types such as soccer plates. It is also available in a UV stable option to prevent premature yellowing by sunlight. The Avalon Crystal technology can be combined with the whole range of standard TPUs to produce combination designs as well as liquid polyurethane midsoles in Avalon Duo technology. Also on show will be Avalon Reflex, a new TPU technology. It is designed to meet the demand for lightweight performance in sports such as soccer and track & field. The latest Avalon Reflex range combines greater stiffness and resilience enabling thinner, lighter-weight components to be produced with enhanced performance. In addition, cold and room temperature flex properties are maintained, achieving outstanding dynamic fatigue and wear resistance.
