ITPO-CLE prepare for IILF 2011

The 26th India International Leather Fair (IILF) is scheduled to be held in Chennai , from January 31 to February 3, 2011, at the Chennai Trade Centre. IILF, an annual event, is one of the premier exhibitions organised by India Trade Promotion Organisation in collaboration with Council for Leather Exports (CLE) in the leather industry.


Over 400 leading manufacturers and exporters from India and overseas countries would be participating in IILF, which will cover over 8000 sqm. The response from national as well as overseas exhibitors is overwhelming in view of the booming economy.

The Indian leather industry holds a prominent place in the country’s economy. This sector is known for its consistency in high export earning and is among the top ten foreign exchange earners for the country. Leather sector is one of the ‘Focus sectors’ under Foreign Trade Policy of the Government of India. The industry’s annual production value is estimated to be over US$ 7 billion. The export value during 2008-09 is US$3.59 billion. India accounts for a share of about three per cent in the global leather import trade. The major production centres are located at Chennai, Ambur, Ranipet, Variambadi, Bangalore, Delhi, Agra, Noida, Jalandhar, Karnal, Kanpur, Kolkata and Mumbai.

In the 2010 edition of the Fair, there were 435 exhibitors including 173 companies from abroad representing 24 countries. Overseas participation was quite significant with group participation from China, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Thailand. About 15,000 business visitors including 1600 overseas buyers and visitors from a host of countries such as Austria, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Iran, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, etc.

Business generated during the fair was estimated to be around US$150 million and four joint ventures agreements were signed. The visitors to 26th IILF will be able to see the new trends in the design and technology at the exhibition. The professionals will have a unique opportunity to conclude contracts with partners from different countries

The concurrent events planned during the IILF 2011 include trade seminars and a fashion show.
