Janibel break new ground

19 August 2001

Brazilian footwear producers Janibel Indústria e Comércio de Calçados have announced that they intend to open a new production facility in Córdoba. Argentina is the company's largest market despite the economic crisis with $25 million in exports every year. Janibel hope to benefit from Argentina's lower taxes and will produce 5,000 pairs of shoes a day and create up to 500 jobs. 'Whoever wants to strengthen their position in Mercosur has to have a foot in the other camp', said Eduardo Daniel Jaime, the company's negotiator in Argentina.
