Kazakhstan leather production

Kazakhstan's National Statistics Agency reports that Kazakhstan produced 77.7 million sq dm of cattle hides in 2002, an increase of exactly 100% compared with the previous year, according to the Interfax news agency. The production of leather from pig, sheep and goat hides rose 20 times year-on-year in 2002 to 21,100 sq dm, from only 1,100 sq dm in 2001. Production of leather uppers for shoes fell by 6% to 239,700 pairs. Kazakhstan also produced 19,992 tonnes of chrome tanning agent last year, a year-on-year increase of 17.3%
