Leather and footwear exports grow

19 August 2001

Vietnam's exports of leather and footwear are estimated to reach US$1.55-1.6 billion this year, beating last year's $1.468 billion, the Viet Nam Leather and Footwear Association's president Phan Dinh Do said. Local leather and footwear producers have exported more than US$612 million worth of products so far this year, only 2.2% higher than last year. The slow increase has been caused by a fall in demand for leather products and footwear at home and abroad and strong competition in the international market.
