Leatherdays on the up

16 February 2003

International Leather days (ILD) the Turkish leather fair took place in Istanbul, January 9-11, and was reported to have had a 25% increase in exhibitors. Certainly, the aisles were noticeably busy throughout show. All five halls of the exhibition were filled with leather garment manufacturers, tanners (mainly for garments), tannery chemical and machinery companies and accessory makers. Most exhibitors were Turkish. However, there was a sizeable number of overseas companies. Although only one Russian exhibitor attended the show, the halls were filled with visitors from Russia and the other former CIS countries. Seminars were held during the fair designed to promote Russia as a viable market for foreign companies. The country has an improving economy and more secure business outlook. Trade between Türkiye and Russia continues to grow. A catwalk show was held every day featuring the latest doubleface, nappa, suede and nubuck garments for the autumn/winter 2003/04 season. The Turkish designer, Emelda, also gave a separate catwalk show. The next edition of ILD takes place in Istanbul January 29-31, 2004. A full report on the fair can be found later in this edition.
