Modified veg extract for upholstery

15 December 2003

Tanac, the Brazilian vegetable extract specialists, have designed a modified vegetable extract with special physical and chemical properties. It is aimed at manufacturers of all kinds of upholstery leather. Macrospec TP is a retanning agent that offers fast and deep penetration into the leather while maintaining vegetable extract characteristics. Following research carried out by technical staff at Tanac, the mimosa-based extract has been chemically modified and the resulting monomer compressed. The smaller size has more active sites to fix the molecule on to the protein fibre within the hide or skin structure. The new product offers a finished leather that has good softness, fullness and has the required embossing properties etc. It has good fixation, lightfastness and produces an upholstery leather with vegetable tanned properties. The light brown powder is supplied in 25kg bags and can be applied to chrome and chrome-free process baths.
