Identifying the leather sector as a major growth engine, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced a plan which could involve the creation of mega leather parks and help the state profit from an increase in processed leather in the country. Executive director of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd and managing director of Lidcap, Tenneti Krishna Prasad, said it was decided to plan up to 94 leather industrial parks across the State. The Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, is expected to provide technical consultancy. During the current financial year, ten leather industrial parks - seven mini, two medium and one mega park - are planned to be set up across the State. The remaining parks are to be set up in a phased manner over the next five years.
