Münzing Chemie celebrate 175 years in the market

Münzing Chemie, Heilbronn, Germany, are celebrating 175 years in the market. The sixth generation of the family is now involved in the company, headed by Dr Michael Münzing, they are now forming themselves worldwide as the Münzing Group, for example with the acquisition of Ultra Additives in the United States. It all began with a raw material which was in high demand for the paper industry, sulfuric acid produced in a lead chamber process. The then 23 year-old entrepreneur Friedrich Michael Münzing conquered the market shortly after the foundation of his company in March 1830. However, two world wars resulting in the total demolition of the production facilities affected the company seriously. 100 years later the great grandson of the founder Dr Eng Erich Münzing again used sulfonation processes to set up new product lines for the paper, textile and leather industry. In the fifth generation - in the 1960s in cooperation with American partners, since the 1980s once more an independent family owned enterprise - Dr Wolfgang Münzing set up the new business unit 'Additives for Coatings'. He invested in technology (laboratories, application engineering, multi purpose production facilities, environmental protection) and personnel (R&D, production, quality management, sales, control). Customers were offered a full range of additives: alongside defoamers levelling and surface control additives (eg antiblocking agents, slip additives), wetting agents, emulsifiers and film modifiers, dispersants, rheology additives, anti shrinking agents and other powdery additives. The assets of this medium size company are their technology teams with highly qualified chemists and practically experienced application engineers. They work closely with customers in various industries to solve problems and enhance innovations.
