Nature and science combine

1 March 2002

Cotance tell us that Tanweek will be an open conference in Bologna, Italy, during Lineapelle (November 5-7, 2002). European leather experts will reveal how scientific progress and clean technologies have turned their ancient trade into a pioneering biotech industry. A 12-page colour brochure will explain the impact of science on the tanning industry and show how the latest R&D breakthroughs contribute to a cleaner environment. The brochure will be published in English, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. A 10-minute video will illustrate how science has improved the production of leather in Europe, highlighting the environmental benefits and how they positively affect the public. A trailer will be available on [http://www.euroleather.com] After the conference in Bologna, national seminars will propagate its message in other member states including Greece, Spain, Sweden and Portugal. At these public events, tanners will meet with local consumers, students, business representatives, scientists, politicians and the media to explain the remarkable progress in the leather industry. The one-day seminars are also being held in Athens, Barcelona, Göteborg and Lisbon. With the exception of Bologna, these also include tours of local tanneries.
