New days for Madrid leather week

8 July 2005

Madrid International Leather Week will be held from September 29- October 1, 2005 at Feria de Madrid. The event has been changed from its previous Friday-Sunday slot to Thursday-Saturday to better meet the needs of visitors. Organisers hope the timing close to Micam will enable buyers from further afield to combine the two shows in one visit. This rescheduling is therefore expected to increase the number of foreign buyers able to attend the show. Said to be the most international edition yet, organisers IFEMA are expecting increased participation from foreign buyers. As the fair will open on a Thursday, a larger number of buyers are expected than at the weekend and foreign visitors can easily travel from Micam in Milan. Some 611 companies have already confirmed their participation, 30% higher than this time last year. Of these, 141 are from outside Spain. The next exhibition are will come to around 31,300 sq m which represents an increase of 16.7%. So far, foreign companies have reserved exhibition space measuring 5,000 sq m. International Leather Week incorporates Modacalzado, the International Footwear Trade Fair, and Iberpiel Marroquinería, the International Leather Goods Trade Fair. Modacalzado will occupy halls 6, 8, 9 and 10 with an exhibition space of 27,000 sq m. A total of 532 exhibitors have registered to date of which 131 are foreign companies. One of the most significant new features this year will be the Star Mark in Hall 6 where the most prestigious companies will present their ideas in quality footwear and design. A VIP area here will allow exhibitors to invite their clients to relax with a drink in an exclusive setting. Iberpiel Marroquinería will be located in Hall 4 and already has over 4,200 sq m of exhibiting space for some 79 companies. The Bond Street section will bring together the most exclusive bags, belts, leathergoods, clothing, gloves, gift and travel items.
