New pigskin tannery

2 May 2001

Lewag Lederwerk AG are opening a new pigskin tannery in old east Germany for the production of good quality lining leathers. The project has been under development for two years. Pigskin leathers are a tradition of the former eastern bloc countries but since liberalisation supplies have dwindled due to the fashion for leaving the skins on the meat. Skins can still be obtained within Eastern Europe and from Denmark and China and the company are investigating the possibility of sourcing skins domestically.
