New Rohm and Haas vice president

Rohm and Haas Company board of directors have elected Gary S Calabrese to vice president of the company and chief technology officer, at a regularly scheduled board meeting. As chief technology officer, Dr Calabrese will work with the company's executive council and business leaders to identify new areas of technology investment. He will ensure that the company's core technology platforms remain strong, and that Rohm and Haas researchers around the world continue to push the envelope of innovation. He will retain oversight for the company's electronic materials research organisation, and will also lead a corporate technology development laboratory focused on creating new product families for Rohm and Haas. Dr Calabrese joined The Shipley Company, a Rohm and Haas Company subsidiary, in 1989 where he has held several leadership positions in product development and manufacturing. Prior to Shipley, he worked in new product development at Polaroid Corporation and Allied-Signal. He earned a BS degree in Chemistry from Lehigh University, a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and has authored dozens of technical papers and patents.
