New Tyche plant under construction
20 October 2009The new tannery is being constructed by the Taiwanese tannery group, Tyche will begin production in the first quarter of 2010. The new factory is located on the east coast of China in Fujian province, at Zhang Zhou city.
The area has been dedicated as a new special zone for the leather industry and eventually there will be more than 30 new tanneries located in the specialised zone. Most will be Chinese owned tanneries but there will also be tanneries from international tanning groups such as Tyche.
‘The first stage of construction for the Tyche plant will be completed by end of 2009 and we will start to move the drums and machinery in shortly after. Trial runs will be scheduled for April 2010’, Philip Yang, managing director, Tyche told Leather International. ‘In the early stages of opening the new tannery we will only tan to wet-blue with a capacity of 2000 hides per day’, he added.
The second phase will see the setting up of a finishing plant where they will be producing shoe upper and leathergoods leathers for both the export and Chinese domestic markets. Construction of phase two will begin as soon as the first stage is completed in 2010.
