New year, new head, new course at BSLT

The British School of Leather Technology (BSLT) is beginning 2004 with the search for a new leader. BSLT, part of University College Northampton (UCN), is advertising the post to replace Dr Gordon Paul who returned to industry at the end of 2003. The new subject leader will have excellent industry knowledge and experience in business development. Diane Hayes from UCN said: 'We're looking for a special individual; someone who has a passion for the leather industry and a desire to develop Britain's only leather school in support of UK, European and indeed international clients.' In addition to the new subject leader, the school is also launching a new short course. The Leather Industry Awareness course at BSLT will give students an insight into the economics and technology of the industry. The programme is suitable for those involved in leather production, supply chain businesses and end-user organisations (sourcers and retailers). The curriculum will be based on lectures on leather technology, leather science and leather testing. Students will spend time in BSLT's own tannery and laboratory facilities. The course lasts 12 weeks and tuition costs £4,000.
