Olcina launch Cangilones

11 January 2001

Introduced during Tanning Tech by Spanish drum, paddle and automation specialists Olcina, the new Cangilones drum offers the tanner improved performance and greater environmental efficiency during processing. The new drum has been designed to provide a high load (up to 20 tons capacity) low float system for all beamhouse and tanning processes. Standard sizes of the Cangilones system are a larger 4.25m x 4.5m as well as a 4.0m x 4.0m vessel. At the moment Cangilones is solely for the liming/tanning operations. However, Olcina are developing the new system for dyeing drums as well. Already they have sold 35 'Cangilones' to tanneries around the world including five new drums to Sadesa. The important points about these drums are that they allow the processing of both small and large loads and yet, compared with normal process drums, the tanner will see that he can increase the loadings and reduce the quantity of water to levels not possible with conventional drums. The added bonus is that the quality of wet-blue produced is superior. The advantages include: * The system allows for controlled swelling, reduces excessive swelling and leads to wrinkle free bellies and necks. It also reduces vein marks and drawn grain * The liming ensures fine, clear pores with no residual hair, which in turn leads to a better quality grain * Greater area yield because the more even liming means the hides lie flatter. They are subjected to much lower tension than in conventional drums * Greater efficiency in processing There are also substantial savings on power, water, chemicals and effluent treatment. There is also a significant increase in productivity per given area. Practical experience has demonstrated proven savings of between US$120,000 - 130,000 per year.
