16 April 2003

Uncertainty and war fears have delayed the opening of a new production facility for Istanbul-based Organik Kimya San ve Tic AS. As well as investing in a new trans-shipment plant in Rotterdam, Organik concurrently are adding a further 35,000-ton capacity to their Istanbul factory. Due to open in February 2003 and come on stream in 2004, the new facility will probably be opening later in March or April, deputy general manager Stefano Kaslowski told Leather International. 'Investments have run into delays', he explained. Organik Kimya specialise in acrylics and polymers and about 10% of business focuses on wet end and finishing products for leathers. The firm have been highly successful in selling raw material ingredients (for acrylics) to chemical formulators.
