Pamela Woods Gloves join British Glove Association

23 March 2006

Specialist glovemakers for the film, theatre and fashion industries, Pamela Woods Gloves (www.pamelawoods-gloves.co.uk) have joined the British Glove Association (www.gloveassociation.org), the UK's principal representative organisation for business within the glove trade. The formidable, highly respected partnership comprising Pamela Elton (who makes the gloves) and Richard Elton (who does anything else that needs to be done) has worked on many hundreds of fascinating, high profile commissions since establishing Pamela Woods Gloves 20 years ago. Pamela studied Fashion and Textiles and was a college lecturer before briefly moving to London. It was here where her keen interest in theatrical costume coupled with some experience in making for various TV shows, led her to begin making gloves that attracted interest from designers. Since relocating to rural Lincolnshire many hundreds of theatrical commissions have since followed. Among Pamela Wood's current commissions there are three films in production - gloves for James Purefoy in the title role as 'Beau Brummel'; Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth I in 'Golden Age' and Demi Moore in 'Flawless. 'The theatre and film business relies heavily on reputation and trust', explains Richard Elton. 'Our business has developed because we have a reputation for facilitating the fast turnaround required to accommodate schedules, changes and working with people who are under a great deal of pressure. The money spent on film and TV may sound outrageous to outsiders but budgets are invariably tight and producers want value for their investment. Designers have come to realise that we can be as big as their imaginations and gloves can play an integral part in their plans.'
