Plan to raise foreign investment for new tannery

Authorities in Belarus are planning to build a new tannery according to the State Science and Technology Committee. The new tannery will be located in Grodno and will cover the full leather making process. It will produce leather for footwear, garments and furniture employing cutting-edge foreign equipment and technologies say a report published by BeITA on March 7.


The tannery will be built in the east industrial hub in Grodno and investments into the project are estimated to be approximately $46 million. Once established, the tannery is projected to manufacture 600,000 sq m of leather per year for both the domestic and international markets.
According to the Investment Department of the Economy Committee of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, many companies are showing interest in the project and negotiations are underway. An investor has not been chosen yet.
The new tannery will be built with support of the Grodno tanning association and is listed in the State Innovation Development Program of Belarus for 2011-15, which aims to upgrade the national economy.
