S B Foot to close Cactus plant

S B Foot Tanning Company, a subsidiary of Red Wing Boot Company, have decided to close their tannery in Cactus, Texas, due to environmental constrictions. In 2000 it cost the company $510,439 in fines and penalties while at the same time they agreed to spend a further $926,500 to reduce the chromium and sodium discharges. The company will still operate their tannery in Red Wing, Minnesota, but their wet-blue will be produced at the Thru Blue plant in St Paul, Minnesota, in which they have an interest.
