Safety technologist course a US hit

12 May 2003

SATRA's new training course for technologists in the safety products industry has already made a major impact in the United States. The modular programme will give invaluable information to personnel who manufacture or supply Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the European market and an initial course at the Artech laboratories in Washington on June 2-3 has met with a very encouraging response, says Austin Simmons, assistant director of SATRA. A further course is planned to take place in Hong Kong later in 2003. The first day of each course covers the legislative aspects of the European markets, technical standards and testing and is common to all forms of PPE. The second and any subsequent days are specific to various sectors and focus on products such as: High visibility clothing; Gloves; Footwear; Fall arrest; Equestrian; Sports protection; Motorcycle equipment; Chainsaw. Austin adds: 'The PPE industry is very competitive and complex. The technical and legislative issues within the European Union need to be fully understood. SATRA's new course will not only assist companies to do this, but also allow them to exploit the market potential.'
