Sheepskin on the catwalks

Yeti boots in Mongolian lamb, sheepskin or fake fur made their way down the New York Fashion Week catwalks as the latest fashion accessory. Super model Naomi Campbell, among others, revived the early 70s' fashion statement at the opening of the Anna Sui show with a particularly hairy version worn with a plaid blanket mini skirt. They provided a natural footwear accompaniment for clothing inspired by snow-boarding and skiing but were also chosen to accessorise chiffon smocks, blanket skirts, pink satin micro kilts and beaded tunics. Young British designer, Matthew Williamson, also took the Yeti boot to team with his collection of sheepskin jackets with pastel sequin decoration. Alternatives were rabbit fur gaiters and padded suede platform boots. At the British Fashion Week, Roland Mouret reprised the 60s with minis and patent leather cut-out harness bras and more than a passing resemblance to Pierre Cardin's futuristic designs of the time. Dublin-based John Rocha used brightly coloured feathers to decorate silk and leather skirts and wove feathers and and sheepskin into patchwork for arts and crafts style knits.
