SLTC looking online

15 October 2003

The UK section of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (SLTC) held their 106th annual conference and dinner at the Moat House Hotel, Nottingham, on September 13. Although the conference was poorly attended by its usual standards, there were a number of interesting and varied presentations. The Atkin Memorial lecture was provided by Wolfram Scholz, BLC Leather Technology Centre. He discussed 'Novel membrane bioreactor technology and reverse osmosis for tannery effluent treatment'. The presentations included a mixture of theoretical, practical and informative lectures and most delegates felt that there had been a good balance. Neil Appleton, sales manager, Ingenta, had been invited by the SLTC to present a paper on online publishing. Ingenta provide online services to similar industry societies. The SLTC is looking at ways of publishing technical papers online to both cut costs and reach a wider international audience. A decision is to be made by the newly elected SLTC council and then put to the wider membership sometime in the next year.
