Stahl introduce two new Synektans

12 September 2004

Two new Synektans designed to give tight, fine grain structures have been introduced to Stahl's range of wet-end products. Both have a wide range of applications. Synektan CAR was originally developed as a colloidal method of reducing tanning agent astringency behaviour. This Colloidal Astringency Reducer (CAR) contains 90-95% solids and is ideal for use on chrome-free leather with high technical and physical properties and is used in proportions of 2-4% applied five minutes before adding the synthetic or natural tanning agent. This avoids the development of a coarse grain structure and instead achieves a tight, fine grain during drumming. Synektan CAR can also be used as a slip agent by adding 0.5-1% at every stage after changing the tanning or retanning liquors or floats. In contrast, Synektan WA is a liquid tanning agent possessing excellent tanning and retanning properties which are ideal for both chrome-free and wet-blue leathers. High levels of physical fastness are highlighted by the very good whitening intensity which is achieved without bleaching and allows deep black leather to be produced easily. Excellent light and heat fastness result in minimal yellowing. As well as being suitable for automotive and upholstery leathers, Synektan WA has many other applications where a tight, fine grain structure is required. It may also be used by adding approximately 4% as a retanning agent in retanning wet-blue or by adding 16-25% for chrome-free or vegetable leathers.
