Starting the new year in style - Première Vision 2017

14 February 2017

After the New York version in January, Première Vision returned to its spiritual home on 7–9 February. Technology, CSR and local sourcing were at the heart of the Paris edition, which will also looked ahead to spring and summer 2018.

The leather component of Première Vision Paris was attended by 230 exhibitors. This segment focused upon the high-end market, and demonstrated its continuing evolution within the wider brand by strengthening its relationship with the show’s five other sectors (yarns, fabrics, designs, manufacturing and accessories).

The February event featured a new conference and workshop area in Hall 3, which was at the heart of the show, on the border with Première Vision Accessories. This area for discussions and presentations hosted a variety of informative and inspirational events, such as the Leather Fashion Breakfasts, where items for discussion included the fashion forecast for the spring summer 2018, as well as colours, products and key materials for the leather and fur markets.

Attendees also had the chance to participate in ‘Savoir-faire – driving innovation’, a roundtable with the Conseil National du Cuir (French Leather Council), Compagnons du Devoir and the French Footwear Federation.

Buyer: be aware

To optimise the buyer circuit and illustrate the interconnection between Première Vision Accessories and Première Vision Leather, accessories for footwear and leather goods were moved to the Première Vision Leather Trends gallery, also in Hall 3.

As a result, the Shoe Focus forum in Hall 4 was replaced by the Bag and Shoe Elements zone at the heart of the Première Vision Leather Trends Gallery, which presented technical and decorative components designed specifically for the footwear and leather goods markets, arranged into various themes.

Echoing Première Vision Leather’s exclusive, high-end ethos, Maison d’Exceptions, the annual event dedicated to exceptional techniques, in a setting conceived by the Italian designers of Segno Italiano.

A total of 27 carefully selected studios – ten of which were brand new to the show – revealed their creations in leather, fabrics and accessories. ?

Leather and creation

Première Vision Leather has been supporting the designers of the design postgraduate programme run by the French Fashion Institute, IFM, since 2001. For the latest edition, Première Vision Leather offered 18 designers from the class of 2016 the chance to present selected items from their bag, clothing and footwear collections, produced by manufacturers and prestigious luxury French and international houses. These items were produced using leather that had been provided by a number of tanneries exhibiting at the show, often at no cost. The result of a brand-new collaboration between Première Vision Leather and The Gobelins School of Images, the Metamorphosis exhibition, located at the entrance to Hall 3, was an artistic journey through the imagination and creativity of young student photographers.

A partner since 2011 of the Hyeres International Festival of Fashion and Photography, Première Vision has sponsored the Fashion Jury Grand Prix, known as the Première Vision Jury Grand Prix, since 2013. Offering real support to creativity, Première Vision Paris accompanied the ten finalists of this competition during February’s shows, assisting them in the process of designing their collections. This year also saw the launch of an accessories prize (leather goods, footwear, jewellery and glasses). Première Vision Paris also welcomed the ten finalists of this new prize.

For the third consecutive year, the School of Decorative Arts (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) presented the accessories designed by its 2016 graduates and produced in partnership with leading artisans as part of their graduation project. Première Vision Leather also celebrated tomorrow’s talent and raised their industry profile by organising an exhibition and awarding the (honorary) ENSAD X Leather Accessory prize.

The wearable lab

After a collaboration with the R3iLab programme (a network for non-physical innovation in industry) in September 2015 and the creation of the Accessology area in February 2016, Première Vision Paris launched the Wearable Lab in Hall 5 to bring together an exhibit of ten inspiring, experimental works featuring clothing and accessories that testified to the fast-moving developments in the Fashiontech scene over the past ten years.

A showroom of four start-ups was a place not just to meet and exchange ideas, but also to display the very latest innovations and future goals, while proposing potential partnerships.

Hands on with the trends that will shape 2018.
