14 February 2005

The 24th edition of Pielespaña took place from January 21-24 at the Montjuic trade fair centre. The show which highlighted suede, nappa and doubleface garments, leathergoods and accessories, welcomed 102 exhibitors and participants represented 55 countries. The show was considerably reduced in size compared to last year, reflecting the current state of the leather industry in Spain as in the rest of the world. Several events took place including fashion shows and design exhibitions. The catwalk played host to the Pasarela Pielespaña, displaying the latest in furs and leather fashion for autumn/winter 2005-6 from leading garment companies such as Corty Bennett and Munper. The show was opened by Elena Montes, winner of last year's student fashion competition. Interior design projects also featured. The aim of the Start '05 competition was to develop the innovative potential of leather and featured designs by students from design schools in Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Hamburg and Barcelona. In the interior design category, first prize went to Bruno Guimaraes from Montevideo who's entry involved reclaimed leather in combination with other decorative materials. In terms of garments, the winning entry was an innovative leather outfit, offering the wearer multiple combinations.
