Sustainability centre stage at next GDS

18 June 2012

The Spring edition of the two trade fairs GDS and Global Shoes has hardly drawn to a close and the next ‘round’ is already starting. Under the heading ‘Inspiration to Go’ the international shoe sector will reconvene in Düsseldorf from September 5-7, 2012. Centre stage this time will be the shoe fashion for Spring/Summer 2013 embedded in the eleven themed worlds of GDS. Add to this an extensive line-up of side events including catwalk shows, lectures and seminars.

Altogether over 800 exhibitors from over 30 countries are expected to attend GDS again. ‘Our concept is entirely tailored to our visitors’ needs. With its different lifestyle worlds it ensures easy orientation. At the same time we are creating a setting that leaves lots of room for inspiration,’ says Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director of GDS.

Trend theme - sustainability

More and more brands focus on ecologically manufactured fashion thereby responding to the growing demands from shoppers. According to a study by the German Federal Environment Agency, two out of three shoppers polled now already purchase products made with the least environmental impact. Correspondingly high is the number of exhibitors at GDS who have committed themselves to this theme; including the likes of El Naturalista, Ecogreen, Sioux (Green Grashopper), GrandStep and Boombuz. A special appearance is guaranteed here for Snipe because the label will be organising a major event at the next GDS to present the first compostable leather shoe manufactured in traditional style.

 ‘Made in Italy’ at GDS

Shoes ‘Made in Italy’ at GDS in Düsseldorf – and this has been the case for 35 years now! The ‘Consorzio Maestri Calzaturieri del Brenta’ will celebrate their 35th exhibition anniversary at the forthcoming GDS. September 1977 saw the shoe manufacturers from the region between Padua and Venice take part in GDS for the first time. To mark the anniversary occasion the entire shoe-making region will stage a special fashion show and present innovations from the Italian realm of fashion.

Global Shoes

Global Shoes is held in parallel with GDS. Under the motto ‘shoe fashion all along the line’ this platform for volume suppliers will present a wide and varied selection of shoe and leather goods ranges for the volume market. For the next event more than 350 exhibitors from all major shoe-producing countries are expected to participate again.
