Sustainable Sourcing event update

9 March 2011

A half-day conference for responsible solutions for the leather supply chain, Hong Kong – March 31, 2011. A major element of any sustainable product is consideration of the environmental footprint of materials and processes used during the product lifecycle. In addition, due care and attention must be given to the chemical inputs so that the manufacturers and consumers and the environment at large are protected from harmful substances.

Social and ethical considerations are vitally important in any responsible sourcing strategy as are traceability of materials and transparency of supply chain. Logistics and the protection of quality of goods during transportation also contribute to a sustainable footprint.

This event will bring together a panel of key speakers and leading international experts in an informative programme dedicated to responsible product sourcing. In addition, representatives from the leather and materials supply chain from materials through to retailers and brands will play a significant role in the event, providing an effective platform for networking.

Presentations will be provided by leading accessories brand Cole Haan, leading product safety law firm Sidley Austin LLP, mould prevention specialists Micro-Pak, anti-mould chemical provider Thor Specialities srl, global shipping giant Orient Overseas Container Line, supply chain traceability company Historic Futures, social and ethical factory compliance specialists InFact Global Partners, hide trade experts Hidenet Publications, and industry forum LeatherNaturally!.

The event is organised by BLC Leather Technology Centre and APLF Ltd, and sponsored by Micro-Pak Ltd, Thor Specialties srl, Stahl and Leather International.
