Tajikistan - foot and mouth disease

28 July 2003

Tajikistan's Veterinary Administration has reported that it has imposed a ban on the movement of livestock into and out of the Darvoz District in the country's Gorno Badakshan region, according to the Asia-Plus Information Agency. The ban has been introduced because of the high risk of the spread of foot-and-mouth disease from neighbouring Afghanistan. Vaccination of cattle against the disease is currently under way in four districts in Gorno Badakhshan.
