Tanac complete 60 years

In 1948, in Montenegro, RS, Tanac began the production and commercialisation of vegetable tannin extracts, derived from the black acacia bark native of planted forests in Rio Grande do Sul.


Initially with 60 employees, the Tannin Unit produced around 2,000 tons/year of extracts. Today, with a capacity to produce 32,000 tons annually of Black Acacia extracts, Tanac hold employ 340 at this unit which produces, besides the vegetable tannin extracts, flocculants/coagulants for the treatment of wastewater effluent and drinking water, wood adhesives and ceramic mass viscosity reducers and drilling mud conditioners. With the Quality and Environmental Management System certified by the NBR ISO 9001 and 14001 norms, Tanac guarantee the quality of their products and services and ratify their compromise with environmental preservation. More than 70 countries, distributed in the five continents, recognize the quality of Tanac products. Also in the Woodchip Unit, founded in Rio Grande in 1995, the ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications prove the commitment of the company in maintaining the highest quality level in production, according to effective environmental norms and legislation. Producing black acacia woodchips for the cellulose industry for more than ten years, Tanac export around 700,000 tons annually to Japan. Certified by the FSC - Forest Stewardship Council, the chain of custody of the woodchip unit guarantees the quality of the wood from this origin. In that unit, 75 employees direct their efforts towards the attainment of the common objectives. The Tanagro Forest Unit has around 28,700 hectares of own planted forests, in a total area of 57,000 hectares of land, along with 750 collaborators.  Permanent preservation areas, with beautiful landscape of native forests and abundant fauna are observed in the properties of the company, which has the handling of its acacia forests certified by the FSC - the Forest Stewardship Council, confirming that their activities are economically viable, environmentally compatible and socially responsible. The Quality System of Tanagro is also certified by the NBR ISO 9001 norm. For 60 years Tanac have represented growth and progress throughout Rio Grande do Sul, promoting the economical development of thousands of families through the incentive of the acaciculture. With a forest fomenting programme which contributes with the distribution of improved seeds, production of qualified seedlings and the implantation of forests with an excellence level in the state, Tanac have been modifying the Rio Grande do Sul landscape for the better over six decades.
