Tanners attend Gemata open days

30 April 2009

More than 150 invited visitors attended Gemata's open house days at their factory in Trissino, Italy April 18-19. The event followed on from the Lineapelle show in Bologna while a number of visitors and exhibiting tanners were in the country. Gemata factory (number 2) is located close to the Arzignano tanning cluster.

Gemata used the event to highlight their new Topstar 3400 full hide rollercoater, which has been designed to apply a colour coat and topcoat to on full grain, and embossed automotive and furniture upholstery leathers. The company envisage that Topstar could allow tanners to finish leathers without the use of spray finishing which can have environmental and cost saving benefits.

During the event other machines highlighted were the new range of splitting machines called Lintasplit, a model suitable for lime & wet-blue splitting which can also be fitted with an automatic feeding system suitable for splitting dry leather. Lintasplit is available in working widths of 1500/1600, 1900/2000, 2300/2400, 3100/ 3200, and 3300/3400mm. Tests have been carried out using this machine with wet-blue and crust hides, showing the capability of splitting with accuracy within 0.1 mm over the whole surface.

During the event, Gemata also presented their Starcolor 1800, a new throughfeed dyeing machine which works by immersing crust bovine hides or goat and sheepskins in rapid dye bath. Demonstrations were performed during the open days to prospective customers to show the potential of the machine.
