Tata International plan footwear unit at Kolkata

The Tata group are planning to set up an integrated facility for tanning and footwear manufacturing at the Kolkata Leather Complex. Around 20-25 acres are said to have been requisitioned for the purpose. The chairman of Tata Group, Ratan Tata, recently described West Bengal as an 'attractive destination' and expressed his interest in increasing the group's exposure in the State. West Bengal state commerce and industry minister Nirupam Sen, stated that the government 'was still discussing the issue and has not entered into any formal agreement as yet.'
