Thailand invites investment in leather

12 January 2005

Thailand, with whom India has signed a free trade agreement (FTA), is inviting Indian companies to invest in several identified sectors. Among the many possible sectors for investment is leather, according to Thamrong Mahajchariyawong, assistant secretary general, Board of Investment (BOI), Thailand. He told the delegates of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) that Thailand needs high quality, high-end leather, leather products and designs and also leather tanneries. Foreign investment in Thailand is very liberal with no equity limit, no bar on profit repatriation, no area-specific restrictions and liberal labour laws. Source: The Financial Express, New Delhi
