Thailand's fashion showcase returns bigger and better

1 June 2006

Amidst the hottest fashion happenings around the globe in September this year, the Bangkok International Fashion Fair (BIFF) and Bangkok International Leather Fair (BIL) will again be organized by the Thai government's Department of Export Promotion (DEP). The events which take place from September 27 - October 1, will showcase the latest trends, products and services in apparel, accessory and tannery fashion. With a strong following since their inception 22 years ago, BIFF and BIL events are now regarded as Asia's foremost sourcing and networking platform for both international and local fashion trade professionals. Chantra Purnariksha, director general, DEP stated; 'following on from the success and warm welcome received at BIFF& BIL 2005 last year, we foresee significant export growth for the Thai fashion and leather industries. The government's aggressive promotion of Thai designers and Thai-made products during the past years is rapidly establishing Thailand as Asia's fashion hub.' She described BIFF& BIL 2006 as not-to-be -missed events for fashion trendsetters, who are looking for a unique mix of high quality apparel, textile and leather fashion products and related services under one roof. To compliment the range of fashion goods, we have also expanded our fashion accessory space.' The events will cover 20,000 square meters of the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). 900 exhibitors and more than 8,000 international visitors from Europe, USA, Middle East and Asia are expected to participate. Latest DEP figures estimate that the Thai garment, textile and leather export industry will be worth US$8.8 billion by the end of 2006, representing a 12% growth from last year. Exports generated US$ 2.48 billion during the first four months of 2005, an increase of about 4.2 % over the same period in 2005.
