Vietnam - EU dumping duty

An official from Vietnam's Trade Ministry says that the European Union's decision to impose anti-dumping duties on Vietnamese footwear exports to the EU will push Vietnam's leather shoe industry into crisis, with the loss of a large number of jobs, according to the Vietnamese News Agency. These jobs losses would affect the shoe, leather processing and related industries. The official added that Vietnam has never dumped leather shoes on to the EU market, and that the EU decision will prevent consumers in the EU from buying low-cost products. Anti-dumping duties will not be applied to Vietnamese-made children's shoes and sports shoes. Vietnam's Trade Ministry reports that Vietnam exported leather shoes worth US$582 million in the first two months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 31%. Leather shoes accounted for around 11% of total Vietnamese exports during the period.
