Serbia's Statistical Office reports that Serbia exported leather and leather products worth E44 million in the first quarter of this year, compared with E37 million in the same period in 2007. Serbian imports of the same types of commodities in the first quarter were worth E73.9 million, as against E60.8 million in the corresponding period in 2007.

Qatar imported 189.050 kilos of raw hides and skins, and leather, worth QAR3.86 million (USD1.06 million) in 2007, according to Qatar's General Secretariat for Development Planning. The country also imported 6.02 million kilos of leather products worth US$34.4 million last year.

Hungary's Central Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Hungary in the first two months of this year was 51.7% higher than in the same period in 2007.

Slovenia's Statistics Office reports that the number of cattle slaughtered in slaughterhouses in Slovenia in February, 9,967, was 1.8% lower than in January and 11.4% higher than in February 2007.

Ukraine's State Statistics Committee reports that the production of leather and leather products in Ukraine in the first quarter of this year was 27.6% higher than in the same period in 2007.

Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau reports that Latvia exported raw hides and skins, and leather, worth US$9.76 million in the first two months of this year, of which 93% were exported to the European Union.

Croatia's Central Bureau of Statistics reports that the number of employees in Croatia's leather industry in February was 1.8% higher than in January and 3.9% higher than in February 2007.

The first stage of a new livestock farm was inaugurated recently in the Kuryinsky district in the Altai region in Siberia, according to BISNIS, part of the US Department of Commerce, Washington DC. The project is worth an estimated US$6.36 million.

Hungary's Central Statistical Office reports that Hungary imported leather and leather products (not including raw hides and skins) worth E23.4 million in January, a year-on-year decrease of 2.6%. Hungary exported the same types of commodities worth E12 million in January, a year-on-year increase of 32.1%.

Slovenia's Statistics Office reports that the number of cattle in Slovenia at the end of 2007 was 479,581, compared with 476,492 at the end of 2006.

Macedonia's State Statistical Office has reported that the production of leather and leather products in Macedonia in February was 16.9% higher than in January and 11.2% lower than in February 2007.

Ukraine's State Statistics Committee reports that Ukraine exported leather and leather products worth US$20 million in January, a year-on-year increase of 0.8%. Ukrainian imports of the same types of commodities in January were 14.3% higher year-on-year at US$11 million.

Romania's National Statistics Institute reports that the production of leather and leather products in Romania in January was 45.5% higher than in December and 9.1% lower than in January 2007. In comparison, the monthly and annual increases in industrial output in Romania in January were 1.6% and 6.1% respectively.

Officials in Khammouane province in Laos say that the number of cattle in the province in March this year was 138,600, an increase of 17.3% compared with the last fiscal year, according to the KPL news agency.

Romania's National Statistics Institute reports that Romania exported leather and leather products worth E76.2 million in 2007, an increase of 14.3% compared with 2006. Romanian imports of the same types of commodities last year were 2.7% lower year-on-year at E664 million.

Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade says it wants to see regulations amended to allow foreign-invested enterprises to sell imported goods to multiple domestic distributors, rather than requiring them to sell to a sole domestic distributor as currently, according to the Vietnamese News Agency.

Statistics South Africa reports that leather and leather products worth US$49 million were sold in South Africa in January, an increase of 8.6% compared with the same month in 2007.

Statistics Lithuania reports that Lithuania exported leather and leather products worth US$45 million in 2007, as compared with US$36 million in 2006. Lithuanian imports of the same types of commodities last year were worth US$70 million, as against US$50 million in 2006. 

Turkey's State Statistics Institute reports that the production of leather and leather products in Turkey in January was 4.7% higher than in January 2007. In comparison, industrial output in Turkey in January was 11.7% higher year-on-year.

Ireland's Central Statistics Office reports that the number of cattle slaughtered in Ireland in January, 137,600 head, was 10.4% lower than in the same month in 2007. The number of sheep slaughtered, 215,900, was 0.6% lower year-on-year.

Serbia's Minister of Trade, Predrag Bubalo, has indicated that Serbia could meet some of the demand from the Russian republic of Tatarstan for leather products, according to the Serbian government's website.

Ukraine's State Statistics Committee reports that Ukraine exported leather and leather products worth US$394 million in 2007, an increase of 28.6% compared with the previous year.

A national programme to increase cattle breeding on private farms helped to increase the number of cattle in Uzbekistan by 5.9% in 2007 compared with the previous year, according to UzReport.

Macedonia's State Statistical Office reports that the number of people employed in Macedonia's leather industry in January was 0.2% higher than in January 2007.

Hungary's Central Statistical Office reports that Hungary imported leather and leather products (not including raw hides and skins) worth E277 million in 2007, a year-on-year increase of 6.9%. Hungary exported the same types of commodities worth E138 million in 2007, a year-on-year increase of 1.5%.

Jordan's Department of Statistics reports that Jordan exported raw hides and skins, and leather (excluding leather products), worth US$7.73 million in 2007, compared with exports worth US$7.69 million in 2006. Jordan imported the same types of commodities in 2007 worth US$610,014, as against US$693,935 the previous year.

A meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Turkmenistan in early March heard that the cold winter in the country had resulted in a reduction in livestock numbers in Turkmenistan, according to the Turkmen government's website.

Russia's Federal Customs Service reports that Russia imported 90 million pairs of leather footwear worth US$1.35 billion last year, almost all of which came from countries outside of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Slovakia's Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Slovakia in January was 11.8% lower than in January 2007. In comparison, industrial output in Slovakia in January was 8.5% higher year-on-year.

Albania's National Statistics Institute reports that Albania imported leather and leather products worth US$6.42 million in January, compared with imports worth US$7.26million in January 2007.

Ukraine's State Statistics Committee reports that leather and leather products' manufacturers in Ukraine recorded sales totalling US$21.2 million in January, compared with US$17.3 million in January 2007.

Poland's Central Statistics Office reports that the average price received by leather and leather products manufacturers for their products in Poland in 2007 was 0.9% higher than in 2006.

Iran has exported more than 19 million pieces of processed leather in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2007 - March 20, 2008), according to the IRNA news agency, citing officials in Teheran. Exports have been delivered to Italy, Turkey and Pakistan.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federal Office of Statistics reports that 116,461 head of cattle of a total net weight of 19,048 tonnes were slaughtered in abattoirs in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2007, respectively 7.1% higher and 18% higher than in 2006.

The number of livestock killed as a result of cold weather in northern Vietnam increased to around 55,000 by the last week in February, according to the Vietnamese News Agency.

There were an estimated 21.3 million head of cattle on farms in Russia as of the start of this year, 0.7% fewer than at the start of 2007, according to the Interfax news agency. The mortality rate of cattle in 2007 was higher than in 2006, said the report.

Slovenia's Statistics Office reports that the total turnover of leather industry companies in Slovenia in 2007 was 13.2% lower than in 2006. Turnover on the domestic Slovenian market was 26.7% lower with turnover from export sales 9.3% lower year-on-year.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federal Office of Statistics reports that the production of leather and leather products in Bosnia and Herzegovina in January was 54.2% higher than in December and 18.8% higher than in January 2007. In comparison, industrial output in Bosnia and Herzegovina in January was 7.3% lower month-on-month and 7.8% higher year-on-year.

Slovenia's Statistics Office reports that a total of 128,087 cattle of a total of 36,203 tonnes dressed carcass weight were slaughtered in slaughterhouses in Slovenia in 2007,respectively 6.4% fewer and 4.5% lower than in 2006.

Hungary's Central Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Hungary in 2007 was 52.2% higher than in 2006. Leather and leather products manufacturers' sales in 2007 were 50% higher year-on-year, with a decrease in sales of 4.5% on the domestic Hungarian market and 62.3% higher sales on export markets.

Azerbaijan's State Statistics Committee reports that livestock production in Azerbaijan in 2007 was 6.1% per cent higher than in the previous year, according to the Interfax news agency. There were 2.5 million head of cattle in Azerbaijan as of the start of this year.

Vietnam's Finance Ministry is proposing a reduction in the rate of corporate tax from 28% to 25% per cent from January 1, 2009, according to the Vietnamese News Agency.

Germany's Federal Statistics Office reports that 7.3 million tonnes of meat was produced from livestock slaughtered at commercial slaughterhouses in Germany in 2007. A total of 53 million pigs, 3.3 million cattle (excluding calves), 305,000 calves and 1.1 million sheep were slaughtered at commercial slaughterhouses in Germany last year.

Turkey's State Statistics Institute reports that average monthly production of leather and leather products in Turkey in 2007 was 0.7% lower than in 2006. In comparison, average monthly industrial output in Turkey in 2007 was 5.4% higher year-on-year.

Lebanon's Central Administration of Statistics reports that Lebanon exported raw hides and skins, and leather, worth US$7.47 million in 2007. Lebanese imports of the same types of commodities in 2007 were worth US$28.3 million.

Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau reports that Latvia exported raw hides and skins, and leather, worth US$3.46 million in December, of which 91.7% were exported to the European Union. Latvia imported the same types of commodities worth US$3.50 million in December, of which 82.5% came from the EU.

Ireland's Central Statistics Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Ireland in December 2007 was a substantial 38% higher than in the same month in 2006. The turnover of leather industry companies in Ireland in December 2007 was 13% higher year-on-year.

Ukraine's State Statistics Committee reports that the production of leather and leather products in Ukraine in January was 18.1% lower than in December and 30.5% higher than in January 2007. In comparison, industrial output in Ukraine in January was 12.4% lower month-on-month and 5.7% higher year-on-year. 

Slovakia's Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Slovakia continued to decline in 2007. Production was 3.2% lower than in 2006. In comparison, industrial output in Slovakia was 13% higher year-on-year.

Statistics Georgia reports that Georgia's leather and leather products' industry recorded a total turnover worth US$2.46 million in the first nine months of 2007. In 2006, the industry recorded a total turnover of US$3.41 million.

Statistics South Africa reports that the South African leather industry operated at 76.9% of its total capacity in 2007, compared with 79.3% in 2006. In comparison, South Africa's manufacturing sector operated at 86.1% capacity last year.

Slovenia's Statistics Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Slovenia in 2007 was 22.3% lower than in 2006. In comparison, industrial output in Slovenia in 2007 was 7% higher year-on-year.

Hungary exported the same types of commodities worth E129 million in the same period, a year-on-year increase of 2.9%.

Montenegro's Statistics Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Montenegro in 2007 was 63.3% higher than in 2006. In comparison, the annual increase in industrial output in Montenegro in 2007 was 0.1%.

Iran exported 1.3 million head of livestock in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 - December 20, 2007), according to the IRNA news agency.

Hungary's Central Statistical Office reports that there were 705,000 head of cattle on farms in Hungary on December 1, 2007, compared with 710,000 on April 1, 2007, and 702,000 on December 1, 2006.

Croatia's Central Bureau of Statistics reports that leather and leather products' production in Croatia in 2007 was 20.3% higher than in 2006. In comparison, industrial output in Croatia in 2007 was 5.6% higher year-on-year.

Ukraine's State Statistics Committee reports that Ukraine exported leather and leather products worth US$360 million in the first eleven months of 2007, a year-on-year increase of 33%.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federal Office of Statistics reports that the production of leather and leather products in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2007 was 8.8% higher than in 2006.

The Czech Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in the Czech Republic in the first eleven months of 2007 was 1.2% higher than in the same period in 2006.

Statistics Norway reports that Norway exported raw hides and skins worth US$86 million in 2007, a year-on-year fall of 9.5%.

Slovenia's Statistics Office reports that the number of cattle slaughtered in abattoirs in Slovenia in November, 14,913, was 19.8% higher than in October and 3.7% higher than in November 2006.

Hungary's Central Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Hungary in the first eleven months of 2007 was 49.9% higher than in the same period in 2006.

Kazakhstan's State Statistics Agency reports that livestock production in Kazakhstan in 2007 increased by 4% year-on-year to a value of US$3.9 billion, according to the Interfax news agency.  

Bulgaria's Ministry of Agriculture has indicated a fall of around 5% in cattle numbers in Bulgaria in 2007 as compared with the previous year, according to the Bulgarian Telegraphic Agency. The fall was attributed to adverse weather conditions and insufficient feed supplies.

Slovenia's Statistics Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Slovenia in the first eleven months of 2007 was 22.5% lower than in the same period the previous year.

Statistics Iceland reports that Iceland exported raw hides and skins worth US$9.45 million in the first eleven months of 2007, compared with US$9.63 million in the same period in 2006.

Slovakia's Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Slovakia continued to decline year-on-year in the first eleven months of 2007. Production was 1.9% lower than in the January to November period in 2006. In comparison, industrial output in Slovakia was 14.5% higher year-on-year.

Russia's State Statistics Committee reports that Russia produced 2.3 billion square decimetres of chrome-tanned leather products in the first eleven months of 2007, a year-on-year increase of 31.3%, according to the Interfax news agency.  Production of ‘stiff leather product' was 0.5% higher at 68.6 million square decimetres.

Statistics South Africa reports that the production of leather and leather products in South Africa in the first eleven months of 2007 was 4.9% higher than in the same period in 2006.

Ireland's Central Statistics Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Ireland in November 2007 was a substantial 86% higher than in the same month in 2006. The turnover of leather industry companies in Ireland in November 2007 was 47% higher year-on-year.

Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau reports that Latvia exported raw hides and skins, and leather, worth US$2.63 million in November, of which 79.3% were exported to the European Union. Latvia imported the same types of commodities worth US$5.1 million in November, of which 76.5% came from the EU.

Turkey's State Statistics Institute reports that the production of leather and leather products in Turkey in November 2007 was 8.% lower than in the same month the previous year. In comparison, industrial output in Turkey in November 2007 was 7.7% higher year-on-year.

Iranian and Vietnamese officials signed an agricultural co-operation agreement in Teheran in early January, according to the IRNA news agency. Iran's Agriculture Minister, Mohammed-Reza Eskandari, said that the two countries can implement joint projects in the cattle breeding sector.

Israel's Central Statistics Bureau reports that Israel imported leather and leather products worth US$117 million in the first eleven months of 2007, compared with US$91 million in the same period in 2006.

Albania's National Statistics Institute reports that Albania imported leather and leather products worth US$85 million in the first eleven months of 2007, compared with imports worth US$73 million in the same period in 2006.

Turkey's State Statistics Institute reports that Turkey exported raw hides and skins, and leather, worth US$112 million in the first eleven months of 2007, compared with US$93 million in the same period in 2006.
