Serbian first-quarter foreign trade

Hungarian two-month foreign trade
Published: 05 May, 2009Hungary's Central Statistical Office reports that Hungary exported leather and leather products worth E12.8 million in the first two months of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 46.9%.
Macedonian leather production

Philippines’ production in February

Georgian first-quarter foreign trade

Polish first-quarter production
Published: 05 May, 2009Poland's Central Statistical Office reports that the production of cattle and calves for slaughter in Poland in the first quarter of this year totalled 46,800 tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.4%.
Montenegro first-quarter production
Published: 05 May, 2009Montenegro's National Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Montenegro in the first quarter of this year was more than double that in the first quarter of 2008.
Irish livestock numbers
Published: 05 May, 2009Ireland's Central Statistical Office reports that there were 6.72 million head of cattle in Ireland in June 2008, compared with 6.70 million in June 2007 and 6.92 million in June 2006.
Bosnian Serb Republic production

Croatian production and exports
Published: 05 May, 2009Croatia's Central Bureau of Statistics reports that the production of leather and leather products in Croatia in the first quarter of this year was 34.3% lower than in the same period in 2008.
Bosnia and Herzegovinan sales and purchases
Published: 05 May, 2009Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federal Statistics Office reports that livestock worth US$243,011 was bought and sold in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first two months of this year, a decrease of 39.5% compared with the same period in 2008.
Romanian foreign trade in January

UKLF centenary celebrations

Crisis in Nicaraguan tannery sector
Published: 03 September, 2007Operations at Bataan Tannery, the largest in Nicaragua, have been suspended for three months as well as at the Central American Tannery. According to Silvio Salinas, owner of the Central American Tannery, six major and 35 minor tanneries have been forced to suspend operations since there are hardly any raw materials to be found.
Less demand from China brings down hide prices
Published: 17 August, 2007Hide values continued to rise throughout 2006 and, by December, all steer hide selections were commanding prices well over $70 per piece on an FOB basis. In the latter half of 2006, steer hide prices rose around 20% while cow hide prices went up by about 22% for the year.

Latin American cattle herds represent a quarter of world total

The last five years have seen a positive cycle in cattle ranching in Argentina. Cattle stock has increased from 50 million to 55 million and slaughter emerged from a decade long stagnation (12-13 million heads per year) to 14-15 million. This was partly due to the four million tons of corn used per year for supplementary bovine feeding.
Tannery competitiveness increasingly being eroded
Published: 13 July, 2007According to Narvaez, the Colombian sector's specialities include footwear leathers, leathergoods, garment and upholstery. In terms of size and technology, as well as in finishing, the main players are Bufalo, Itagui, Americana de Curtidos, Curtipieles, Matteuchi, Curtiembres Sierra Perez, Curtiembres del Reno and Districarnazas Luna. The tanning industry is dispersed throughout Colombia with centres on the Atlantic Coast in Baranquilla and Cartagena as well as on the 'Coffee-growing Axis' - Calarca and Pereira, Antioquia, Medellín, and in the centre of the country, Bogotá. In terms of wet-blue production the major players are CI Colcueros and American Leather in Bogotá.
More than a decade of trials and tribulations
Published: 13 July, 2007Increased demand for footwear based on a real rise in disposable consumer income has enabled many tanneries to lift their sales of finished leathers to the local shoe manufacturing industry. Table 1 illustrates the decline in productivity and the use of installed capacity of the tanning and footwear industries, taking 1997 as the base year.
