Two novelties from Textan
Indian biotechnology specialists Textan have launched Ezyme-A Liquid, a 100% sulfide-free unhairing enzyme, the first of its kind in India. With this product, the company have shifted away from enzyme assisted unhairing methods to enzyme only unhairing methods. Ezyme-A Liquid removes sodium sulfide from the unhairing process, reducing both BOD and COD parameters.
Tex Bio-D is a high-performance biodegradable enzyme formulation for degreasing and the product can be used before pretanning operations. It can penetrate deeply and disperse the fats effectively. Proper degreasing ensures a good quality wet-blue and finished leather without the build-up of fungi. Tex Bio-D is totally free from solvents and helps reduce tannery pollution. It is a brown liquid and a pH of 5-6 in a 10% solution.
For goat and sheepskins, Tex Bio-D should be added 0.5-2% after a good wash and after deliming and bating.
For pickled sheep, the skin should be depickled to pH6, then 0.5-2% Tex Bio-D should be added to achieve a good degreasing action, followed by two or three washes. The fat content will be brought down from 10 to 2. The degreased skins will have a natural touch with a silky grain and good tear strength properties.
Pigskins have excess fat and degreasing is an important operation. A dosage of 1-3% Tex Bio-D may be required to achieve good degreasing followed by two or three washes.
Some origins of cow and buffalo have a high fat content. 1-2% Tex Bio-D can be used along with 0.5-0.75% Tex Wet-100 to give excellent results.
