Slovakia's State Statistics Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in Slovakia in the first two months of this year was 0.5% lower than in the same period in 2005. In comparison, overall industrial output in Slovakia in January and February was 6.6% higher year-on-year.
Ukraine's State Statistics Committee reports that the number of livestock on farms in Ukraine on March 1 this year was 6.79 million, 5.3% fewer than on the same date in 2005.
Latvian government officials say they are opposed to the decision taken by the European Commission to impose a dumping duty on imports of leather shoes into the EU from China and Vietnam, according to Baltic Business News. Latvia's Economy Ministry estimates that the duty will affect 36% of the shoes sold in Latvia.
Ukraine's State Statistics Committee reports that the production of leather and leather products in Ukraine in the first quarter of this year was 20.9% higher than in the same period in 2005. In comparison, industrial output in Ukraine in this year's first quarter was 0.2% higher year-on-year.
The Czech Statistical Office reports that the production of leather and leather products in the Czech Republic in the first two months of this year was 11.5% higher than in the same period in 2005. In comparison, overall industrial output in the Czech Republic in the first two months of this year was 13.8% higher year-on-year.
Slovakia's State Statistical Office reports that manufacturers of leather and leather products in the Slovak Republic recorded sales worth US$46.3 million in February, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%. In comparison, sales by manufacturers as a whole in Slovakia in January were 15.4% higher year-on-year.
Slovakia exported raw hides and skins, and leather and leather products, worth US$13.7 million in January, a year-on-year increase of 50.6%. Slovakia's imports of the same types of commodities in January were 12.5% higher year-on-year at US$25.6 million.
Albania's National Statistics Institute reports that Albania exported leather and leather products worth US$1.17 million in January. Imports of the same types of commodities in January were worth US$4.61 million.
Croatia's Central Statistics Bureau reports that labour productivity in the Croatian leather industry in February was 18.2% higher than in February 2005. In comparison, labour productivity in Croatian industry as a whole in February was 6.8% higher year-on-year. The number of people employed in the leather industry in February was 3% lower than in February last year.
Hungary's Central Statistical Office reports that Hungary imported leather and leather products worth US$21.8 million in January, a year-on-year decrease of 15.2%. Hungarian exports of the same types of commodities in January were 19.2% lower year-on-year at US$12.5 million.
Serbia's Statistical Office reports that Serbia exported leather and leather products worth US$20.3 million in the first two months of this year, as compared with US$18.5 million in the same period last year. Serbian imports of the same types of commodities in the January to February period were worth US$31.8 million, as against US$21 million in the corresponding period in 2005.
