Shafi receive Best Performance award
Muhammad Shafi Tanneries (Private) Limited, the flagship company of one of the biggest groups of Pakistan, have again been awarded the FPCCI Best Export Performance Trophy by the president of Pakistan, General Parvez Musharraf.
The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) initiated this award for finished leather in 1978-79 and Shafi were the first winner by virtue of their huge export of finished leather. They have so far won 23 times. The only four occasions they did not win was because they were either barred from applying or they chose not apply on their own, in spite of the fact that exports were still much more than the winner for that year.
Muhammad Shafi Tanneries produce about 2 million sq ft of goatskin leather per month from raw to finished and are probably the biggest tannery in the world for this type of production. Recently, the company took the bold decision to establish offshore companies and they are in the process of building a huge factory in China, which will start production this year. This will give them an extra edge over their nearest competitors anywhere in the world.
