Satra extend footwear comfort
Satra are making major investments in additional test equipment to cope with increasing demand from retailers and manufacturers seeking fast and accurate results in assessment of footwear moisture disposal properties.
The Advanced Moisture Management (AMM) test equipment, designed by the technology centre, has been in constant use since the first unit was built two years ago. Now two more have been commissioned to cater for a surge in demand for testing to ensure more comfortable footwear.
The test is designed to establish the moisture transfer properties of footwear, ie its breathability, using a simulated sweating foot. This moulded form contains an electrical heating element and water pipes that distribute 'sweat' to the surface. A realistic warm and humid environment is created when the form is fitted with a standard reference test sock and placed inside footwear.
The process enables Satra to test all types of footwear, including casual and dress shoes, as well as outdoor performance and safety boots. Managing moisture (prevention of sweat) - is a key comfort factor and therefore a major sales benefit.
The order follows additional investment which includes the purchase of another slip resistance tester, complete with ice tray, to assess footwear designed for wintry conditions.
