Cold kills livestock in Vietnam
Published: 25 February, 2008
Vietnamese government sources reported in mid-February that more than 30,000 cattle had died in the northern mountain provinces of Ha Giang, Bac Can, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa and Lang Son as a result of cold weather, according to the Vietnamese News Agency.
The government is to provide financial support of US$62.6 to farmers for each head of cattle lost. It is also considering freezing bank loans taken out by farmers to purchase cattle that were killed by the cold weather.
