Russian cattle numbers

There were an estimated 21.3 million head of cattle on farms in Russia as of the start of this year, 0.7% fewer than at the start of 2007, according to the Interfax news agency. The mortality rate of cattle in 2007 was higher than in 2006, said the report.
Russia's State Statistics Committee reports that new or modernised capacity for accommodating 62,000 head of cattle was put into operation on farms in Russia in 2007, according to the Interfax news agency. This figure compares with new or modernised capacity for 59,800 head of cattle in 2006.
