Uzbekistan livestock development measures
Published: 25 April, 2008
President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan signed a resolution on April 21 introducing measures to increase livestock production in the country, according to the Uza news agency.
Particularly targeted for support are family and small farms. Micro credits worth a total of US$93 million will be given to farmers during the 2008-2010 period. Tax preferences will also be introduced. These measures should result in an increase in Uzbekistan's total cattle number to 8.6 million head by 2010, or 1.7 million more than currently.
