Mastrotto finishing plant opens

In line with the increasing importance of Vietnam in the leather industry, Italy’s Rino Mastrotto Group have opened a finishing plant there. This is their first production initiative in Asia, with around 100 employees. The group are also present in Asunción, Paraguay, with a tannery working from raw to wet-blue. In Brazil, after their divorce by mutual consent from the Bertin group, with whom they had a joint venture, Bermas, Rino Mastrotto have kept on a unit for the production of crust which employs 250.
These foreign adventures haven’t decreased the importance of the Italian operations: Basmar, Calbe/Brusarosco, Pomari, Galassia, Apelle, employing around 460 people. Turnover is estimated at €300 million. One of the world’s largest tanning groups, it is estimated that the group’s production is 50% fashion, 20% automotive and 30% upholstery.
